The Team

Mr Michael Powar

Michael Powar has particular expertise in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and colorectal pelvic floor disorders. He has one of the most extensive experiences in laparoscopic “keyhole” bowel surgery in Cambridge and is involved in training the surgeons of tomorrow, running international courses and mentoring consultant colleagues.

He was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal, Laparoscopic and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2012 following prestigious specialist training in the world-renowned St Marks and Royal Brisbane Hospitals. He is the Lead for Colorectal Pelvic Floor at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Lead for Undergraduate Colorectal teaching at the University of Cambridge Medical School.

Mr Justin Davies

Justin Davies is a leader and mentor in the field of colorectal surgery. He has been a consultant surgeon in Cambridge since 2007 and has a busy NHS practice at Addenbrooke's Hospital, where he is also Deputy Medical Director. He is an Affiliated Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow at Downing College, Cambridge. He is President of The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and President of The Royal Society of Medicine Section of Coloproctology. He has published over 230 articles in peer-review journals and is Co-Editor of 2 surgical textbooks.

He offers private outpatient consultations during the evening, working day or on a Saturday morning, and has a particular interest and expertise in the minimally invasive treatments of haemorrhoids (piles), bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD - Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and diverticular disease. He is an expert in minimally invasive techniques, and is trained to undertake laparoscopic (multiport and single port) and robotic surgery.

Mr Heman Joshi

 Heman Joshi was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge in 2020.

He undertook advanced surgical training in London and Oxford and further international sub-specialist training during a Robotic Surgery fellowship in South Korea.

He completed his Doctorate in Philosophy (DPhil) at the University of Oxford for basic science research into pelvic floor dysfunction. 

He is skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques (e.g. key-hole, robot-assisted, single-port) and is fully accredited in gastrointestinal endoscopy.  

Mr Joshi treats patients with bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, diverticular disease, proctological conditions such as haemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures as well as abdominal wall hernias. His private practice is based at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital and Cambridge Spire Lea Hospital.

Mr Constantinos Simillis

Mr Simillis is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he is the Specialty Lead for Colorectal Surgery.  He qualified in Medicine with MBBS from Imperial College London, where he also achieved a BSc in Surgery and Anaesthesia with First Class Honours. He completed his speciality surgical training in the prestigious North West London surgical rotation and trained in leading university teaching hospitals. He is an accredited Endoscopist, and he is proficient in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from University College London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence-Based Healthcare. He has completed a Master's in Healthcare Ethics and Law, at Manchester University. He has published extensively in the scientific literature, and has given numerous national and international presentations at scientific conferences. He is an Affiliated Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge.
